"U.S. Loses 533,000 Jobs in Biggest Drop Since 1974"
- New York Times

I am a student from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst expected to graduate in the spring of 2009. With the current economic crisis and Massachusetts expected to lay off thousands of workers in November and December, HOW am I going to get a job?! Our country's failing economy is poor timing for perspective seniors ready to enter the job market. This blog will present information regarding the financial crisis and what it means to me.

Looks like you are freaking out a bit, eh? While there are many layoffs and downsizing all around, some companies are hiring, just not as much as they were before. A company a friend of mine works for is looking for a marketing manager for her department. "This person will handle all the organization for our annual client conference and trade shows as well as advertising and Sales support." So if you keep your eyes open and continue networking (remember that?) in the Spring (an a little before to get a jump start), and have a lot of patience, you should be okay. I wouldn't suggest going into the newspaper business, but where one door closes, others open - and a lot of these doors are becoming virtual (on the internet).
I am in the same boat. I am searching for a faculty position at a university, but due to state cut-back and budget shortfalls, many have a hiring freeze. I'm not worried. If I am still not working when I have to make payments on my student loans (which is not small number), they are willing to work with you on payments.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, and if there is anything I can do, just let me know...
